The church of Gartly, which was rebuilt in 1621, was dedicated to St Andrew and formerly belonged to the Bishop of Moray. Ministry of the session is recorded from 1566, in the person of Thomas Garden. In 1933 St Andrew's Parish Church of Gartly united with the former United Free Church congregation of Gartly West, after the union the former West Church was closed. The charge of Kennethmont later formed a link with Gartly in 1955 and in 1985 the session of Noth was established when Clatt with Rhynie united with Gartly with Kennethmont. The kirk session sat within the Presbytery of Strathbogie until 1961 when, by Act of Assembly, the Presbytery of Strathbogie and the Presbytery of Fordyce were united together under the name of the Presbytery of Strathbogie and Fordyce. Following the restructuring of the Presbyteries in 1976, it became part of the Presbytery of Gordon. |
