The village of New Pitsligo was founded within the parish of Tyrie in 1787 by Sir William Forbes of Pitsligo, and the parish of New Pitsligo was disjoined from Tyrie, Aberdour, Strichen and New Deer some time thereafter in 1853. The Parish Church had been built, prior to the erection of the charge, in 1799, initially to serve as a chapel-of-ease. In 1934, following the union of the Church of Scotland and the United Free Church in 1929, the parish church of New Pitsligo (later known as New Pitsligo North) united with the former United Free Church congregation of New Pitsligo South. Following the local union, under the name of New Pitsligo, the former South Church was sold. In 1995 New Pitsligo formed a link with Aberdour. The kirk session sat within the Presbytery of Deer, until the restructuring of the Presbyteries in 1976, when it became part of the Presbytery of Buchan. |
