The church of Kilbride in Arran, which was rebuilt in 1773, belonged anciently to the Abbey of Kilwinning and held a dedication to St Bride. The Island of Arran was divided by two parishes, that of Kilbride and the more extensive parish of Kilmore. The two parishes were joined together to form the session of Kilmore and Kilbride and in 1966 a further union was established with Oban Old, under the name of Kilmore and Kilbride Oban Old. In 1983, the session of Kilmore Oban was formed by the union of Kilbride Oban Old, Oban Christ's Church Dunollie and Oban St Columba's Argyll Square. The kirk session sat within the Presbytery of Irvine until the Presbytery of Kintyre was established in 1638, at which point Kilbride was transferred to this new Court. Kilmore and Kilbride later became part of the Presbytery of Lorn until 1963 when, by Act of Assembly the Presbytery |
