In 1828 a parliamentary church was built at Lochgilphead and the parish was later erected in 1846 when it was disjoined from Glassary and South Knapdale. In 1942, following the union of the Church of Scotland and the United Free Church, Lochgilphead Parish church united with the former United Free Church congregation of Lochgilphead West. After the union the former West church and manse were sold. The kirk session sat within the Presbytery of Inveraray, until the restructuring of the Presbyteries in 1976, when it became part of the Presbytery of South Argyll. |
