The Kirk Session of Kirkmichael takes its name from the parish church, which was dedicated prior to the reformation to St Michael and named accordingly. Ministry of the session is recorded from 1573, in the person of Alexander Gordon. In 1943 the Parish Church of Kirkmichael, later termed Kirkmichael St Michael, united with the Dalvrecht portion of the former United Free Church congregation of Kirkmichael Dalvrecht. After the local union the Dalvrecht church was sold and in 1950 the old parish church was destroyed by fire. The present church was built soon after on the old foundations and the new building was dedicated in 1951. Kirkmichael later formed a link with Tomintoul in 1953 however this arrangement was terminated in 1957 in favour of a union between the two session, under the name of Kirkmichael and Tomintoul. The kirk session sits within the Presbytery of Abernethy |
