Situated in the Dioceses of Glasgow, the ancient church of Urr, which was erected in the 12th century, held a dedication to St Constantine and there was in addition, a second church within the parish, also erected in the 12th century, and which was known as the Church of St Bride. The first church to be built on the present site was opened in 1606, and later rebuilt in 1814, and the present building was erected in 1915. In 1980 Urr established a link with the charge of Dalbeattie. The kirk session sat within the Presbytery of Dumfries, until the restructuring of the Presbyteries in 1976, when it became part of the Presbytery of Dumfries and Kirkcudbright. |
