Prior to the Reformation, Troqueer church belonged to the abbey of Tongland, and later to the priory of Whithorn. From 1574 to 1608 it was held by the bishops of Galloway. Ministers of the charge are recorded from the 1560s. The charge was known as Dumfries: Troqueer from c1929. In 1976 it united with Dumfries: Maxwelltown Laurieknowe under the name Dumfries: Laurieknowe Troqueer. Laurieknowe was dropped from the name in 1991. The church was in the Synod and Presbytery of Dumfries, from 1976 the Presbytery of Dumfries and Kirkcudbright. |
