The Church of the Holy Rude, or the Rood Church, was the pre-reformation church of Stirling, the church building was completed in 1500 to replace a previous church which had been destroyed by fire. In 1607 a second charge was secured for the parish, but as a collegiate charge with one controlling Kirk Session. The building was divided in half in 1656 following a disagreement between the two ministers, the minister of the first charge occupied the eastern half (East Church), and the second minister the other half (West Church). When a third charge was erected in 1731 the minister alternated between preaching in the two churches. The three charges were separated in 1842. The third charge became known as North Church and moved to a building in Murray Place. In 1935 Holy Rude East was united with Holy Rude West and the interior dividing wall was demolished. In 1984 the Holy Rude congregation was linked with Allan Park South. |
