The parish church of Dun held a dedication to the Virgin Mary and it belonged, prior to the reformation, to the Priory of Elcho. Ministry of the session is recorded from 1563, in the person of William Gray. In 1583 the old parish of Ecclesjohn was united to Dun and in more recent times in 1955, Dun established a link with Hillside. The kirk session sat within the Presbytery of Brechin, and later of Brechin and Fordoun, until 1961 when, by Act of Assembly, the Presbytery of Arbroath, the Presbytery of Forfar and the Presbytery of Brechin and Fordoun were united together under the name of Angus and Mearns. Following the restructuring of the Presbyteries in 1976, it became part of the Presbytery of Angus. |
