The parish church of Skene, which was rebuilt in 1801, was dedicated to St Bride and ministry of the Kirk Session is recorded from 1574, in the person of Thomas Bisset, reader. In 1941, following the union of the Church of Scotland and the United Free Church in 1929, Skene old parish church united with the former United Free Church congregation of Skene Lochside. After the local union, under the name of Skene, the former Lochside church was sold in 1942 and the old parish church was modernised. The kirk session sat within the Presbytery of Aberdeen, until the restructuring of the Presbyteries in 1976, when it became part of the Presbytery of Gordon. |
