During the year 1612 the parishes of Colvend and Southwick were united together to form the Kirk Session of Colvend and Southwick and the parish church of the united parish was rebuilt in 1771. The two parishes were later disjoined once more in 1845 however this arrangement did not last and in 1949 the two were reunited again, under the old name of Colvend and Southwick. In 1978 an additional union followed with Kirkbean to form the session of Colvend, Southwick and Kirkbean. The kirk session sat within the Presbytery of Dumfries, until the restructuring of the Presbyteries in 1976, when it became part of the Presbytery of Dumfries and Kirkcudbright. |
