The Kirk Session of Chapelton was established in 1876 when it was disjoined from Glasford, Hamilton and East Kilbride and erected as a separate parish, quoad sacra. In 1930, following the union of the Church of Scotland and the United Free Church in 1929, Chapelton old parish church united with the former United Free Church congregation of Chapelton North. After the union, under the name of Chapelton, the old parish church was demolished and the old manse sold. A link later followed in 1960 with Strathaven Rankin, under the ministry of Rev John Heron, minister at Strathaven Rankin. The kirk session sits within the Presbytery of Hamilton. |
