The old parish church of Panbride, which was rebuilt in 1851 and later renovated in 1952, was dedicated to St Bride and formerly belonged to the Abbey of Arbroath. In addition to the parish church there was a mission chapel of St Brides established within the parish boundaries at Carnoustie. Ministry of the session is recorded from 1567, in the person of Robert Maule. In 1956 Panbride established a link with the charge of Carnoustie Newton Panbride however this linking arrangement was later terminated in 1961 in favour of a union between the two sessions, under the name of Carnoustie Panbride. The kirk session sat within the Presbytery of Arbroath, later of Dundee and, following the restructuring of the Presbyteries in 1976, it became part of the Presbytery of Angus. |
