INTRODUCTION The early papers (nos. 1-906) had been listed by H. M. Paton, 'The Mackintosh Muniments 1442-1820' (1903), but some of them were damaged by damp while still at Moy. The collection is on the one hand typical of a Scottish estate and on the other hand unique in the material on family and local affairs. Outwith Scotland there are papers relating to Angus Mackintosh [McIntosh] (d. 1833) who spent much of his life in Canada. These papers are in a separate section and in the correspondence section. Much correspondence relates to Allan Macdonald [McDonald], solicitor in Inverness and factor in the late nineteenth century. His legal papers are in an original broadly alphabetical arrangement.
