The family originated with Archibald Campbell of Monzie who was the 5th son of Sir Duncan Campbell of Glenorchy (4th surviving son). He acquired the quarter lands of Monzie by his marriage to Margaret Toshoch, eldest daughter of Andrew Toshoch and sold them to his brother, Duncan in 1581. Archibald's second wife was Christina, daughter of Alexander Robertson of Lude.
Duncan Campbell who was the son of Archibald Campbell of Lagvinschoch succeeded to Monzie and the Ibert. He married in 1633 Ann or Agnes Murray, daughter of Patrick Murray of Ochtertyre. However the lands of Monzie known as McNab's Quarter appear to have belonged to George Grahame of Monzie who is retoured heir to his father in 1633. These lands were resigned by Patrick McNab of Monzie in 1502 to Duncan Campbell of Glenurquhart.
Colin Campbell of Monzie, 1635-1691 succeeded his father Duncan and married in 1672 a daughter of Laurence Oliphant of Gask. In 1676 he placed the estate under a deed of entail which was not lifted until the 19th century.
Duncan Campbell succeeded his father Colin but died young and without issue in 1697.
Patrick Campbell was the 2nd son of Colin Campbell of Monzie. He married Anne Oliphant. He was retoured heir to his brother Duncan, in 1706. He was admitted advocate in 1709 and became a judge of the Court of Session in 1727 with the title Lord Monzie. He married Catherine, daughter of Sir Charles Erskine of Alva. He was born c1675 and died in 1751 when Patrick his only surviving son succeeded.
Patrick Campbell was the 4th and youngest son of Lord Monzie and succeeded in 1752. He died aged 38 in 1757 and was succeeded by his cousin.
Captain James Campbell was the son of Colin Campbell, master of Gask and married Mary, daughter of Sir Henry Stirling of Ardoch and died without issue in 1761.
Mungo Campbell of Monzie was retoured in 1763 as heir to his cousin, Captain James Campbell of Monzie. Mungo Campbell died in 1774.
James Campbell of Monzie died in 1777. He was the son of Mungo Campbell and had been retoured heir in 1775.
Robert Campbell of Finab and Monzie was retoured heir to his cousin, James Campbell of Monzie in 1778. He is also known as Colonel Robert Campbell of Monzie.
Robert's son, Alexander succeeded to the estate on his father's death in 1790. On his death in 1832, the estate went to Alexander Cameron-Campbell who sold it c1850 to the father of George Johnstone of Lathrisk as he succeeded in getting the entail lifted.
