What is the Departmental Cipher (Dept Cipher) field for?
Although anyone is welcome to use it, this function is designed for those specialist searchers who are using the original departmental file ciphers to search for Scottish Office and Scottish Executive files held in NAS. It requires some advance knowledge of the ciphers used.
