Mainly personal financial and family letters from his parents, including one from his mother at Torwoodlee, 6 October 1806, urging him to come home as "promotion is not to be had". Also: Letter from J A Wood, Halifax, Nova Scotia, to his cousin, John Wood, Paymaster of the 68th Regiment, West Indies, a terrible journey out, Halifax is a disagreeable place, 18 Oct 1804; envelope to John Wood, Paymaster 68th Regiment, St Lucia, with watercolour portrait (silhouette) of man in uniform (highly coloured) of the 29th Regiment of Foot, presumably Ensign J A Wood, nd. Valuation of a Mulatto woman, Elizabeth Yates, and her child Eliza, at £132. Antigua, 17 July 1805. Letter to Captain Pringle from the Governor of St Thomas, Virgin Islands, thanking him for his and the crew of HMS Pert's assistance in the recent fire, 4 Dec 1806.
