Papers of Angus 'Ease' Macleod MBE (1916-2002), 1685-2003, including: an extensive collection of unpublished manuscripts by Macleod concerning crofting, fishing, tweed, local history (including the clearances and land struggle), place-names, genealogy, religion, community life and folklore, principally covering the South Lochs (Pairc) area of the Isle of Lewis, often with specific reference to his home village of Calbost, (some folklore material is in Gaelic), c. 1969-2002.
Assorted papers, including personal notes, correspondence and draft manuscripts, as well as press cuttings, articles, booklets, reports, theses etc., relating to the same subjects and also to the environment, heritage, tourism, and local politics, c. 1890-2003; includes papers relating to the 'Cuimhneachain nan Gaisgeach' project (erection of memorial cairns to the Lewis land raiders), 1984-99; Scottish Crofters' Union, Crofting Commission, Lewis Crofters and other crofting-related organisations, 1946-2003, and the Harris Tweed industry, 1911-2001.
Extensive collection of genealogical records of the townships of the Pairc and North Lochs districts of Lewis, compiled by Macleod, covering the period c. 1850-1970. Account book of Donald Kennedy, shoemaker of Calbost, 1894-99. Miscellaneous books in English and Gaelic, 1685-2002, including extensive collection of religious works in English and Gaelic, 1848-2001. Maps, plans and charts, mostly relating to South Lochs, (some original, some photocopied, some compiled/annotated by Macleod), [c. 1760-1770]-1988.
Large collection of photographs mostly relating to the residents of the village of Calbost, and also including photographs of items in Macleod's personal museum collection, 1930s-1994. Collection of audio CDs and video DVDs compiled from various sources, mostly concerning local history, Gaelic and related topics, c. 1969-2002. Extensive collection of religious recordings (mostly on reel-to-reel tape) including: psalm-singing, sermons, services and lectures, mostly from the Isle of Lewis, c. 1957-1974.
