3-5 Feb. Military review a magnificent spectacle, 'but the old fat king rolling about in his little caleche, with his lean withered niece - the gaping goose of the brother - the shadow of a shade in one nephew, and the stuffed turkey in the other, produced such a contrast between the reviewers and the reviewed as the imagination can scarcely paint-Spectators or rather applaunders hired, from 30 sous to 5 francs per poll, rent the skies with their well paid vivas. This royal scream was re-echoed by many of the officers, but few of the soldiers joined in the clamor'.
