The firm of Wm. McKinnon was founded in 1798, in Windy-wynd, Aberdeen (adjacent to the present site) and developed from bone-milling, rice-milling and the making of mill machinery to the production of rubber, coffee and sugar processing plants, with markets in Malaya and Central and South America; municipal works; steam engines, including marine engines; ships' boilers; and 'classic' ironfounding.
