Dr Samuel Guise moved from Surat in India to Montrose, Angus shortly before 1809. He received an honorary LL.D. from Marischal College, Aberdeen, in 1809, possibly in recognition of his gifts of manuscripts to the library. There is no trace of him in the Honourable East India Company directories for the Bombay Presidency, which covered Surat, in 1806 or 1807, and nothing else seems to be known of him.
