Description
|
(i) Letters of Neil Munro, 1903-21, n.d. (f.l.). They include several to Walter Jerrold about his articles for the Glasgow Evening News and other literary topics. (ii) Letters of Sir Compton Mackenzie, 1914-61, n.d. (f.20). They include letters to Sir Newman Flower and other publishers, and to the critic, John Davenport; there are also a number of letters from Faith, Lady Mackenzie, to the poet, Brian Hill. ff.20-1 bought, Sotheby's, 3 March 1980, lot 53; ff.34-41 bought, Sotheby's, 20 July 1981, lot 542; ff.57-68 bought, Sotheby's, 29 July 1977, lot 562; the rest bought, 1975-83. (iii) Letters of Neil Gunn, 1929-70, n.d., mostly to Nan Shepherd, the author and lecturer, about their literary work (f.103). Some have been published in Gunn's Selected Letters, ed. J.B. Pick, Edin., 1987. Also included is a page of Gunn's MS. text of an interview with Maurice Lindsay, 1960 (f.146).149 ff. Folio and under.
