Declaration by the Earl of Airlie in regard to the marriage Contract between the late Major William Scrymgeour and Janet, eldest daughter of the late Patrick Guthrie of Auchmethie, whereby it was agreed that besides a competent tocher, the said Janet and her husband "should have ane bairnie's portione of the whole frie estait belonging to him", the said Patrick; and that her portion should be double that of his unmarried daughters: Upon these terms a Bond was subscribed and granted by the said Patrick to the said Major, with a blank for the insertion of the double portion: which bond was deposited by the said James Earl of Airlie in the hands of the Laird of Fintrie, whose oath on the matter had been given before a commission
