Description |
(1) Notarial Instrument by Maria Baxdorfia, widow, concerning a debt of 3163 thalers, and mentioning Thomas Buck and Maria Rhonia, widow; sealed at Vratislavia, 22 March 1635.
(2) A Copy of a Contract dated 9/19 August 1643, between the Emperor and Christine, Queen of Sweden, concerning the ransom and conditions of those captured by either side.
(3) Instructions from General Gustavus Wrangell, to the Commandant of the castle of Brix, dated in the camp before the city 14 January 1646, and addressed to Captain Garden, of the General's Life-guard of Dragoons, ordering him to defend the same to the last man, to dismiss the burghers from the castle, withholding from them 1/3 of the wine in their possession and to give protection to all ecclesiastical property; he is to recruit at any time that he thinks fit, receiving the levy money from the cashiers and taking care not to enlist too many of the Emperor's subjects lest the place be lost by rebellion; the country people in the neighbourhood are to be forced to repair the castle; close liaison to be maintained with the commandant at Leutmeritz [i.e. Leitmeritz, Bohemia] and the general of the army at Leipzig.
(4) Order by General Wrangell, to Major Garden, 7 July 1647 in the camp at Eger, appointing him governor of Dupau in consideration for the hardships which he had undergone at Brix.
(5) Order, General Wrangell at Eger, 8 July 1647, to Captain Garden, upon hearing that the enemy have quit the town of Brix, and granting 500 rix dollars to be paid by the cashier, Buckell, for recruiting his depleted Company; a "concession" to be levied on the town of Dupau as a recompense for all damages and the walls of Brix razed to prevent the enemy gaining a lodgement there again.
(6) Order, General Wrangell, Erhlein, to Captain Garden, 7 December 1648; now that the war is ended, he is to sell all corn and keep the money by him; the contributions owed by the inhabitants of Brix to be reduced by 1,000 rix dollars;
(7) Letter, the Count of Wittenberg, Prague Castle, to Major Garden, Brix, dated 21 April 1649, thanking him for an offer of 2 barrels of wine and asking that complaints of oppression by the inhabitants of Brix should be referred to him.
(8) Passport, dated 9 October 1649, subscribed by Charles Gustavus, [afterwards Charles X of Sweden] in favour of Major Garden, mentioning that the said Major has served for 18 years.
(9) Passport, 22 October 1649, by General Wirtenberger von Debern, in favour of Major Garden.
(10) Notarial Copy of Obligations, by W. Gryson, Leonard Scott, James Harrington, Johan Staphorst, Thomas [Di?] schirm, Johann Ward, Heinrich Lalmers, John Gilbertt, Paul Paulson and Daniel Krafft, [merchants] in Hamburg, in favour of Alexander Garden, for various sums of rix thalers, March 1651 - April 1652, and mentioning Henry Chrispe [a partner of the said Alexander in London].
(11) Letter, Henry Chrispe, London, to Major Garden, 15 October 1653, concerning a bill drawn by Major Garden upon the said Henry, and a loan of £1 to his brother "to healpe him over into Germany not beinge able otherwayes to gett awaye." (holograph). |
