history |
The Scottish Athletics Federation became the replacement governing body for the Scottish Amateur Athletic Association, the Scottish Women's Amateur Athletic Association, the Scottish Cross Country Union and all other amateur athletics in Scotland in October 1992. Its aim was to foster, develop and control the sport of athletics in Scotland, to promote annual championships and to establish and enforce rules for competition. It has now been replaced by Scottish Athletics Limited.
The records of the Scottish Amateur Athletics Association were added to an existing catalogue of pre-1978 records which were deposited in 1980. See GD370.
Although the records of the Scottish Women's Amateur Athletic Association listed here date only from 1954 it is known that the association was founded before 1939. It remained in abeyance during the war but was reactivated in the late 1940s. Its aims and objectives were to encourage, foster and control amateur athletics among women and to assist in the formation of amateur athletic clubs for women in Scotland. |
