Charles Kinloch, from Clunie parish in Perthshire, served with the 52nd Regiment of Foot during the War, in which he was wounded - the cause of his early death, it is thought - and promoted from Lieutenant to Captain. His letters contain a broad spectrum of news about affairs in the Iberian Peninsula and in post-Waterloo France, as well as the normal social remarks about family and friends, Kinloch was married to Agnes Mylne (1798-1869) of the Mylnefield family, his first cousin, and had 4 children by her (Agnes, Isabella, David James and Charles). |
