This deposit consists of the records of the Scottish branches of the 3 professional organisations which amalgamated in 1987 to form the Institution of Water and Environmental Management. These were the Institution of Water Engineers and Scientists (formerly the Institution of Water Engineers), the Institute of Water Pollution Control (known as the Institute of Sewage Purification until 1966) and the Institution of Public Health Engineers. All 3 professional bodies were formed around or before 1900 and each established separate Scottish branches; the Institution of Water Engineers in 1920, the Institute of Sewage Purification in 1942 and the Institution of Public Health Engineers by 1960.
The Institution of Water and Environmental Management is a "multi-disciplinary learned society and examining body which represents the interests of engineers, scientists and other professionally qualified personnel engaged in water and environmental management". |
