Including 1-4. 1648 November 7. Inventory of plenishing of the house of Bogiegetht, received by Colonel John Innes from Colonel John Louies. Articles include: [in my lord's chamber] a chapel bed with an embroidered roof and pand, and headpiece of yellow flowered velvet embroidered with gold and five pieces of damask red and yellow curtains, with a fringe of silk and gold and laid with gold lace, 6 gilt knops with feathers and spangles, a stitched taffeta mat, a velvet tablecloth flowered with red and yellow with a gold fringe, two pairs of bedplaids, two feather beds, two bolsters and two cods; [in my Lord Gordon's chamber] six pieces of Irish worked hangings, a chapel bed, etc; [in the gallery] a pair of broken organs, the Earl of Lennox's picture and other portraits. With two transcripts, giving the date wrongly as 7 February 1648.
5-6. 1648 November 10 Inventory of what is within the house of Strabogie, received by Colonel John Innes at his entry. With transcript, dated wrongly as 4 November 1648.
8. 1699 November 4. Incomplete inventory of contents of Gordon Castle, received by George Stronach, chamberlain of Buckie, from Andrew Hosack, housekeeper there. Items include [in the wardrobe above the gallery] a tent and a pavilion, the frame of a looking glass that was broken by the laird of Abergeldie in the Castle of Edinburgh, a speaking trumpet, six old guns with highland works, two porter's staves with silver heads; [in the wardrobe at the top of the old tower] two lances for riding at the ring' [the billiard room] a billiard table packed up all out of order and some of the green cloth cut with the rates, two big copper pots built into the chimney for brewing water; [the low hall] a well going knock; [the fish larder] the aaw mill that came out of Glenmore.
12. 1723 December 21. Inventory of clothes, linen, etc belonging to Alexander, 2nd duke of Gordon, under care of William Dean, his valet de chambre, delivered up by John Goodwine in Fochabers, the duke's late servant. Items include [in the appaned chest in the high drawing room] a highland coat with silver mounting, a brigade vest; [in the little closet on the righthand of the duke's dressingroom door] various swords, a tartan shoulderbelt mounted with silver buckles, two fishing clips, a boarskin muff and calico nightgown; [in the cupboard next the dressingroom door] a fishing creel and apron, a box with fishing lines, a parcel of canes for measuring ground, a letter case of tartan, six crucibles, a brass machine for levelling and measuring ground; [in the cupboard under the gun press] an old silver trumpet, a brass trumpet, six brass dog collars, four greyhound collars two whereof of silver, a catskin dressed, a fine quilt that belonged to the late duke now in Mrs Kerbie's custody, seven fowling nets and a fishing net, a silver soap box; [in the gun press] guns called Mordaunt, Barber, Sinclair, Terpersie, Buchan and Buckie, a brass carabine, three brass blunderbusses, various pistols and accesories; [in the press next the chimney on the left hand] two dozen jappaned china plates and a teapot, four billiard clubs, a white iron box for carrying papers; [in the cupboard next the chimney on the left hand] a dressed otter skin, a chopin bottle with surfeit waters, a dressed cat skin; [in drawers of the press without glass] linen and stockings, gloves, a nutmeg grater, scarlet cuffs for a highland coat and a machine for powdering wigs.
14. 1728 Inventory of silver plate, bed and table linen, beds, bed clothes and other necessaries for the use of the duke of Gordon's family, delivered by Helen Garrioch to Elizabeth Tyrie, his grace's housekeeper, at martinmas 1728. |
