Description |
As follows:- William by the grace of God King of Scots to all good men of his whole land clerks and laymen greeting. Know men present and future that I have restored and granted and by this my charter confirmed to Hugo son of Hugo de Benne [Benham], Benne [Benholm] by its right marches and with all its just pertinents: To be held &c. (word for word as in the former charter): Doing therefor to me and my heirs half' a knight's service, as the charter of the foresaid Hugo his father witnesses. Witnesses, Reginald bishop of Ross, William & Walter my chaplains, earl Duncan of Fife, Philip de Valoniis [Vallance] chamberlain, Robert de Quincy, Alan son of Rolland the constable, William Comyn [Cumming], John de Hasting [Hastings], William de Hay, Ranulph de Soules, William de Vipont [Vipond], Humphrey de Berkeley [Barclay], David de Hay, Ivo de Vipont [Vipond], Roger de la Kerneille [Kerneil], Malcolm de Lascelles. At Kincardine, twentieth August. PERIOD II Part I Family of Lundin or Lundy [Lundie]. A.D. 1145 to 1565 Note:- The Lundins acquired Benholm by the marriage of Walter de Lundin [Lundie] with Christian the daughter and heiress of Hugo de Benne [Benham], in the first half of the thirteenth century. But the Benholm charter chest contains no Lundin [Lundie] charters earlier than 1445. |
