history |
Men's hockey (in its modern form) began to be played in Scotland in the early 1890s by school and former pupils' teams. The first regular independent club, Clackmannan County, was founded in 1896. Five West of Scotland clubs formed an association in 1900 and on 18 Nov 1901 a representative meeting of Scottish clubs formed the Scottish Hockey Association (SHA). The SHA merged with the Scottish Women's Hockey Association (SWHA) in Jun 1989 to form the Scottish Hockey Union (SHU). Further details of the SHA and of the history of Scottish hockey will be found in the 'Golden Jubilee' brochure and the 75th Anniversary souvenir programme (see GD389/3/1-2). |
