Arrangement |
Much of the collection had previously been arranged and numbered (sometimes in red ink) in accordance with inventories compiled in 1910-11 (GD172/2883). Whilst this earlier arrangement has strongly influenced the present arrangement of the papers, they have been completely re-numbered and should be cited by the reference number GD172 and the piece number in this inventory. |
Publication note |
Information about the Henderson and Spittal families is published in 'History of Inverkeithing and Rosyth' by Revd William Stephen (1921). |
Archival history |
The Henderson of Fordell papers were presented to the Scottish Record Office by Sir John Hampden Mercer-Henderson, 8th Earl of Buckinghamshire, in 1953. Fordell Castle and estate, which the Earl had inherited from his mother, were sold by him in 1954. |
