Title |
Letters of summons under the Great Seal at the instance of John de Swyntoune of that ilk, Kt, against George Cunyngham of Beltoune, sometime stewart of the earldom of March in that part, to compear before the King and his councillors at Edinburgh to answer for his alleged unjust and unorderly proceedings against the said Sir John in the execution of a breve of inquest raised by Laurence, lord Oliphant, on his claim to the lands of Cranschawis in the sheriffdom of Berwic, holding a pretended court not within the bounds of his office and acting unlawfully, not having taken his oath to the execution of his office; and for summoning George, abbot of Aberbroch, Robert, abbot of Kalco, Master Gilbert Rerick, archdeacon of Glasgow for the clergy, William, Earl Marischal, Lord Keith, William, Lord Abernethy in Rothimay, and John Lord Dernle, for the barons, and Alexander Haliburtoune, burgess of Edinburgh, Matthew Forstar, burgess of Strivelyn and Alexander Foulis, for the commissioners of burghs, auditors of causes and complaints of last parliament, to answer for their not answering the summons raised by the said Sir John regarding the wrongous process of the foresaid stewart. Witnesses: James of Cokburn, John of Schoriswod and Marke Archear with others. 28 Jul, 8, 14, 15, 17 and 19 Aug, against William, lord Abernethy, George, abbot of Abberbrothok, John, lord Dernely, Robert, abbot of Kelso, William, Erle Marschell, Alexander Haliburtoune, Alexander Foulis, Master Gilbert Rerick, and Mathew Forester of Striveling. Witnesses: Gilbert Abernethy, Johnne Davidsoun, Alexander Scherar, Henry Logane, James Dawson, Wilziam Layninge, John Aton, Johnne of Mer, David Pringill, Adam of Pringill and James of Pringill.
