Letters of summons under the Great Seal at the instance of John de Swynton of that ilk, Kt, summoning Alexander de Hume, John de Hume, his brother, David Hume of Spot, Hugh Montgomery of Thorntoune, John Montgomery, his son, William Douglas of Quhitingeame, Kt, John Douglas his brother, Archibald Douglas, David Rantoune of Bille, John Ellaine of Buttirden, Thomas Redpeth of that ilk, William Redpeth in Grenlaw, James Ogil, son and heir apparent of Henry Ogil of Popil, Thomas de Edinton of that ilk and Patrick Diess in Mersyntoune, to compear in Edinburgh to answer their error on a breve of inquest procured from Alexander, Duke of Albany, Earl of March and Lord Annandale and Mann by Laurence, lord Oliphant, regarding the lands of Cranschawis lying in the earldom of March and sheriffdom of Berwic, which found the deceased John Oliphant of Aberdalgy, Kt, father of the said Laurence to have died vest and seised of fee in the said lands, whereas the said John of Swynton alleges they were in his hands as true possessor thereof for forty years bypast. George Cunningham of Beltoun, stewart of March is also summoned to compear and answer charge that he held a court of the said stewartry in execution of the said breve within the burgh of Dunbar whereas it should have been held upon the ground of the earldom of March. 26, 28 & 29 Mar By John Crosare, sheriff in that part, against Johnne Hume, Alexander Hume, David Ranton of Bille, David Hume of Spot, Pat Dicsoune, Archibald of Douglas, Johnne of Ellaine of Buttirdene, Johnn of Muntgomery and James Ogill. Witnesses: Archibald, earl of Angus, Alexander, lord Hume, James Ker, James of Brounhill, Johnne Gardner, Rob of Forton, Johnne of Haw, Cuthbert of Crag, Johnne of Schaw, Hud Lauson, Thom Lamb with others.
