Description |
1. 1589/90, February 14. Bond by John Elder, burgess of Perth, and Lilias Keir, his spouse, to Duncan Campbell of Glenurquhay for 100 merks scots, to be repaid by 20 February 1590/1. Witnesses: John Elder, flesher, burgess of Perth, Alexander Campbell there, William Quhyte, servitor to said Duncan, and Donald McKesaak. Signatures executed notarially and attested by Alexander Robertsone, notary, and Gavin Hammiltoun, notary.
2. 1590, December 19. Bond by Alexander Menzies of that ilk to allow £60 paid for him as his part of taxation of his lands within lordship of Kincleavin of £100,000 granted for expenses of the king's marriage, paid for granter by Sir Duncan Campbell of Glenurquhay, kt, in first end of payment of maills and duties due to granter by said Sir Duncan of lands of Cranduyich, Auchmoir and Wester Morinche, granted in tack to him. Witnesses: John Robertsone in Baillietoun, Thomas Menzies in Dalcawir, Michael Menzies, granter's servitors, and Gavin Hammiltoun, notary.
3. 1591, December 7. Bond by Sir Duncan Campbell of Glenorquhaye, kt, to Adam Menzies, for 1000 merks scots, for which sum granter has delivered to said Adam a basin, laver and ewer, all three of silver, `to be disponit be him safar as thai ar of awaill at onye tyme eftir Paische nixtocum ... And inkaice the said silver wark extend nocht to the valour of the foirsaid sowme it being pryisat before onye thrie honest men, I obliss me and my foirsaidis to content and pay to the said Adame his airis or assignayis the remanent of the said sowme'. Witnesses: Alexander, bishop of Brechane, Colin Campbell, son of Sir John Campbell of Lawris, kt, Alexander Levingstoune, servitor to said Sir Duncan Campbell, and Hew Campbell. Endorsed with note by said Sir Duncan agreeing that bond can be registered. Torn.
4. 1591/2, February 1 and 8. Bond of relief by John, earl of Menteithe, with advice of John, earl of Montrose, his curator, with John Grahame of Halyairds, senator of the College of Justice, and John Grahame of Knokdolane, as cautioners, to Sir Duncan Campbell of Glenurquhay and George Buchanan of that ilk at hands of John Gordoune of Buckie, anent payment of 6000 merks due in contract, 12 December 1587, whereby said John Gordoun disponed to said Duncan and George Buchanan byrun maills and duties of earldom of Mentyth, office of bailiery thereof, and pension of £1000 yearly disponed from the same, previously given to said Gordoun of Buckie by dame Margaret Douglas, countess of Menteithe, during his lifetime. Witnesses: Sir James Cheisholme of Dundorne, kt, John Gordoun of Bukkie, Mr Oliver Colt, advocate, Robert Grahame of Thornik. 6. 1592/3 February 8, Edinburgh. Letters by Sir Duncan Campbell of Glenurquhart, kt, charging [blank] to pay and deliver to Thomas Erskyne of Gogare the sum of 100 merks scots.
7. n. d. Discharge by Archibald, earl of Ergyll, with consent of his curators, to Sir Duncan Campbell of Glenurquhay, kt, of seven score merks as stent of part of his lands `promesit in support to yong Malcomtosche wyff'. Witnesses: Mr George Ereskin, Mr John Ard, Mr George Schaw and Mr James Kirk.
8. 1594, September 5. Discharge by Henry Prymrois, burgess of Culros, to Sir Duncan Campbell of Glenurquhay, kt, of 200 merks scots in part payment of 2000 merks due in contract between said Sir Duncan as principal, and [blank] Grahame of Inchebrakie, John Grahame of Balliegany, George Bosuell, chirurgian to the King, burgess of Perth, cautioners, on one part, and Andrew Toscheoch of Monzie, Elizabeth Toscheoch, his spouse, on second part, and Margaret Toscheoch, their eldest daughter, and Archibald Campbell, her spouse and Thomas Toscheoch, cautioner for said Margaret, on third part, 4 August 1593. Witnesses: John Campbell in Aucheinch, Alexander Levingstoun, Thomas Broun and Gavin Hammiltoun, servitors to said Sir Duncan.
9. 1594, October 17. Discharge by Mr William Glass, minister of Dunkeld, to Gavin Hammiltoun, in name of Sir Duncan Campbell of Glenurquhay, kt, of £40 scots, and granter binds himself to obtain from William Stewart, one of his majesty's ordinary `varlatts', an assignation of escheat goods of deceased John Drummond, upon £100 pension which he had out of deanery of Dunkell, by 20 November next to come. Witnesses: Mr Alexander Ireland, minister of Kinclavin, and Michael Gilbert, servitor to said Mr William.
10. 1594, December 10. Discharge by Henry Prymeroiss, burgess of Culross, to Sir Duncan Campbell of Glenurquhay, kt, of 800 merks money, as in no 8. Witnesses: Alexander Robertsoun, son in law to Andrew Toscheocht of Monzie, Andrew Toscheocht, son natural to said Andrew, Thomas Dryisdaill alias Smyth, servant to said Henry, and Adam Oswald, notary.
11. 1594, December 14. Assignation by William Stewart, one of ordinary `verlottis in Oure Soverane Lordis chalmer', having a privy seal gift of escheat of deceased John Drummound, servitor to George, sometime earl of Huntlie, said John being denounced rebel for not compearing before Privy Council to answer upon treasonable raising of fire and burning the place and house of Dynnybirssill, and for shameful murder of James, earl of Murray, to Sir Duncan Campbell of Glenurquhay, kt, assignee to sum of £100 scots granted to said deceased John in pension out of deanery of Dunkeld. Witnesses: Mr William Glas, minister of Dunkeld, Antony Quhyt, notary, and Alexander Lekke, granter's servitor.
12. 1595, October 25. Discharge by James Stewart of Stuikis to Sir Duncan Campbell of Glenurquhay, kt, of 1500 merks scots as price of twelve score ten bolls victual, half meal, half bere, crop 1595, delivered to granter's place of Ballaquhan in Strathtay, `with peck and galpin to everie boll beir with the firlot and stand of the burgh of Perth', between 25 December and 1 February next to come 1596. Witnesses: Patrick Stewart, granter's brother german, James Robertsoun in Killecassie, James Nasmytht of Inver, Alexander Levingstoun, servitors to said Sir Duncan, and Gavin Hammiltoun and [John] Henrie, notaries.
13. 1595, December 8. Discharge by Henry Prymroiss, burgess of Culross, to Sir Duncan Campbell of Glenurquhay, kt, of 1000 merks scots, in complete payment of sum of 2000 merks promised by said Duncan to granter, for Margaret Toscheoch, daughter of Andrew Toscheoch of Monzie, her disposition of her liferent of the northeast quarter of lands of Monzie, mill, mill lands, fishings and all pertinents belonging thereto, lying in stewartry of Stratherne, sheriffdom of Perth. Witnesses: Alexander Reidheuch, fiar of Cultebrigan, Gavin Hammiltoun, notary, writer hereof, Alexander Levingstoun, Mungo Lokhart and Alexander Schaw, servitors to said Duncan.
14. 1595/6, February 12. Discharge by Archibald, earl of Ergyll, to Duncan Campbell of Glenurquhay, kt, of £53 6s 8d, as said Duncan's entry and relief of lands of Stronmilochane, Edindone, Larochfalze, Orlag?, Keandtrochat, Castell, Tulloche, Dwletter, Myane, with woods and fishings of the same, whereof granter will make compt to the Exchequer. Witnesses: Mr Neil Campbell, bishop of Ergyll, Mr George Areskin, Colin Campbell of [blank], John Russell and Mr James Kirk.
15. 1596 June 8 Discharge by Margaret Monro, relict of Colin Campbell of Arbeycht and Alexander Ruthuen, son of Sir William Ruthuen of Ballindene, kt, her spouse to Sir Duncan Campbell of Glenurquhay, kt, by hands of Constantine Malice, burgess of Perth, of 2000 merks scots, in part payment of 5000 merks due in contract, 2 and 8 June instant, between said Duncan as principal on one part, and granters on other part. 18. 1596/7, March 15. Discharge by William Hay of Gourdy, factor for uptaking of teinds of barony of Fardell, to Sir Duncan Campbell of Glenorrequhay, kt, he having right to teinds of said barony by disposition in his favour by Margaret Monro, relict of Colin Campbell of Ardbeyth, liferentrix thereof, of £26 13s 4d scots, as penny mark and silver duty of said teinds, crop and year 1596, due to Bishop of Dunkeld and his pensioners. 19. 1598, April 10. Bond by Colin Campbell, fiar of Glenurquhay, and Jean Campbell, his spouse, to Sir Duncan Campbell of Glenurquhay, kt, for 2000 merks scots. Witnesses: James Campbell, fiar of Laweris, John Campbell in Aucheinch, Gavin Hammiltoun, notary, Duncan McDoall in Awlekhech, and John Campbell, lawful son to the laird of Laweris, and Colin Campbell of Abirouchill.
20. 1598, May 8. Acquittance and discharge by Ewer Campbell of Straquhur to Sir Duncan Campbell of Glenurquhar, kt, of 200 merks as first term's payment of 400 merks for the whitsunday term 1598, contained in decreet arbitral relative to right of possession of 26 merkland of Glenfalloch now pertaining to said Sir Duncan, 6 May 1598. Witnesses: Colin Campbell apparent of Straquhur, Robert Campbell, burgess of Dumbartane, granter's son, David Chirnsyd, burgess of Glasgow, and Matthew Hibbertsone, notary, writer hereof. Endorsed with letter from David Schernisyde, burgess of Glasgow, presumably to Sir Duncan Campbell, urging him to act up to his promises to the old laird, Ewer Campbell, according to honesty and honour.
21. 1598, May 23. Contract between Sir Duncan Campbell of Glenurquhay, kt, on one part, and Janet Murray, relict of John McIndewar in Portbane, and Donald McIndewar, their son, and Patrick McIndewar in Ardtollony, John Campbell in Aucheinch, John Murray of Drumquhnie, and William Lummisdene, curators or tutors to said Donald, on other part, whereby said Sir Duncan grants to said Janet six new calved kye and six farrow kye, all the sheep about the house at time of death of said John McIndewar, with insight plenishing of the house, except heirship of said Donald, and dispones to said Donald six mares with their followers. Endorsed with copy contract, 30 May 1599, between Sir James Murray of Tullibardin and Sir Duncan Campbell of Glenurquhay, choosing James, earl of Glencairn, as arbiter in all debates between them, especially relating to alleged removal of animals from lands of Balquhidder and Glenscharvie, by servants and dependers of said Sir Duncan.
25. 1599, July 2. Discharge by Barbara Moncur, lady Fardillis, to Sir Duncan Campbell of Glenurquhay, kt, of £26 13s 4d scots as penny maills and silver duty of teinds of Fardillis, crop 1598. Witnesses: James Foullis, John Stewart, granter's son, and Robert Hay. Signed by granter.
26. 1599, December 9. Bond by Patrick Stewart, brother german to John, earl of Atholl, as principal, with David Hering, apparent of Glasclune, and William Ruthven, apparent of Bandene, as cautioners, on behalf of colin Campbell, apparent of Glenurquhay, to Sir Duncan Campbell of Glenurquhay, father of said Colin, for having received 500 merks scots, to cause said Colin at his returning to this realm, to allow said sum of 500 merks to said Sir Duncan in readiest of said Colin's rent and living, and to give said Sir Duncan a sufficient discharge for the money.
