1. Charter of confirmation under great seal, dated 26 May 1565, to Robert Stewart of Strathdown, knight, of lands of Orkney and Shetland, with powers of justiciary, 28 Oct. 1581; excerpt from charter under great seal to Robert, earl of Orkney, of island of Cava, 18 Dec. 1581. Printed, RMS, v, nos. 263, 309. 2. Contract between Patrick, earl of Orkney, on one part, and William Mudie of Breckness on other part, whereby latter sells former land in Dunra, Caithness, in return for annualrent from Bow of Lopness, Sanday, and Bow of Walls, Ryssay, Brimes and Osmundway, Hoy, 8 May 1593. 3. Charter of confirmation under great seal to Patrick, earl of Orkney, of earldom of Orkney and lordship of Shetland, with sheriffship, justiciary and 'faudrie', 1 Mar. 1600. Printed RMS, vi, no. 122. 4. Information regarding state of small benefices and kirks in Orkney and Shetland, 1607 × 1628 (erroneously dated 13 Oct. 1580). 5. Description of lands and reddendo from charter by Andrew, bishop of Orkney, to Arthur Buchanan of Sound, of lands of Sound etc. 6 July 1665, now (early 19th cent.) belonging to Capt. William Balfour of Elwick. 6. Charter by James Wallace, minister of cathedral of Orkney, with consent of bishop, dean and chapter of same, to Robert Pottinger, merchant burgess of Kirkwall, of land in Quoybanks, part of cathedral glebe, 4 Mar. 1679. Letter from Andrew Ross, earl of Morton's factor in Orkney, to earl on estate business, including effects of bad harvest of 1765, and drawing attention to his own financial difficulties, partly caused by buying grain for earldom and bishopric tenants, 18 Apr. 1679. 9.
