This company developed from the original firm named Williamson-Buchanan Steamers Ltd, which had in turn been formed in 1919 by the amalgamation of two shipping operators on the Firth of Clyde, viz Messrs Buchanan Steamers Ltd and John Williamson & Co both dating from the 1890-1895 period.
Messrs Williamson-Buchanan's vessels and assets were temporarily transferred to the Caledonian Steam Packet Company Ltd on 3 October 1935, and registered under that company's name.
They were however again transferred to the new company Williamson-Buchanan Steamers (1936) Ltd, which was incorporated on 31 March 1936 under the Companies Act 1929.
Williamson-Buchanan Steamers (1936) Ltd was wound up in June 1943, and their business re-transferred to the Caledonian Steam Packet Company Ltd. |
