The old Harbour of Bo'ness, belonging to the town of Bo'ness, was considerably improved and extended by the Town Council in conjunction with the North British Railway under the Bo'ness Town and Harbour Act of 1875 and the Bo'ness Harbour Act of 1883. The dock was also constructed under the powers of the 1875 Act.
The Bo'ness Town and Harbour Act 1875 constituted a body of Trustees styled the Trustees of the Town and Harbour of Borrowstounness, in whom the Harbour undertaking was thereby vested.
By the Borrowstounness Town and Harbour (Amendment) Act 1878 new Harbour Commissioners were constituted, styled the Borrowstounness Harbour Commissioners, in whom the Harbour undertaking was then vested, four of the Commissioners to be appointed by the Town and Harbour Trustees and four by the North British Railway.
By the North British Railway (General Powers) Act 1900 the Harbour undertaking was transferred to and vested in the North British Railway, and the Harbour Commissioners were dissolved.
The North British Railway became part of the London and North Eastern Railway from 1 January 1923 under the North Eastern, Eastern and East Scottish Group Amalgamation Scheme 1922 dated 30 December 1922. |
