There was a very old Harbour at Burntisland, which belonged to the town of Burntisland, and was under the sole control of the Town Council.
Provision was made by the Burntisland Harbour Act (44 & 45 Vic. c.85) of 27 June 1881 for the Harbour to be transferred to certain Commissioners appointed and incorporated as the "Burntisland Harbour Commissioners", and comprising four appointed by the Town Council and four by the North British Railway Company, eight in all.
The constitution of the Commissioners was altered by Section 39 of the Burntisland Harbour Act (59 & 60 Vic. c.155) of 20 July 1896 to three appointed by the Town Council and six by the Railway Company, nine in all.
The undertaking of the Burntisland Harbour Commissioners was transferred to and vested in the North British Railway as from 15 May 1922 under the powers of the North British Railway (Burntisland Harbour Transfer) Order Confirmation Act (11 & 12 Geo.5. c.108) of 19 August 1921.
The North British Railway became part of the London and North Eastern Railway as from 1 January 1923 under the North Eastern, Eastern, and East Scottish Group Amalgamation Scheme 1922 dated 30 December 1922. |
