Thomas Dundas (1792-1860) was the only son of Major-General Thomas Dundas of Carron Hall (1750-1794) and his wife Lady Eleanor Elizabeth, daughter of Alexander, 9th Earl of Home. Major-General Dundas died at the age of 43 of a fever in Guadeloupe when Thomas was aged two, leaving his widow to bring up Thomas and his six sisters.
Thomas was educated at Marlow College and then joined the army. He married Charlotte Boultbee of Warwickshire in 1815 between overseas' campaigns and retired in 1816, subsequently becoming a lieutentant-colonel. On returning home, he later declined a baronetcy offered to him and was for many years an elder in Larbert parish. He had fifteen children, of whom only two sons and two daughters survived infancy. He was succeeded by his second eldest son Joseph (1822-1872). |
