The Society, initially called the Scottish Society for Conservation and Restoration of Historic and Artistic Works, was established under a resolution at a general meeting on 18 Mar 1977, forming out of the Scottish branch of the United Kingdom Group of the International Institute for Conservation (UKG IIC). In 1979 its name was shortened to the Scottish Society for Conservation and Restoration (SSCR) and it gained Charitable Status. It officially became a registered charity in 1992, number SC017185. SSCR Limited was formed in order to handle the finances for hosting the 11th Triennial Meeting of the International Council of Museums' Committee for Conservation (ICOM-CC), 1996. In 2005 the Society merged back with the Institute of Conservation (IoC, now known as ICON) as a Scottish sub-group. |
