Description |
A small collection of family papers covering the period 1775-1930, with a large number of personal letters (1809-1830), mainly between family members. These can be quite sentimental in tone and include details of the weather, family health, lifestyle, cost of living, schooling, debts etc. The legal correspondence and personal letters often make reference to a failed business venture and property in Canada that appears to have involved A N MacLeod, brother in law to Peter Burnett of Elrick. They also make brief mention of fur trade with Indians, the North West and Hudson Bay Co. and McGillvray of Thaines (1820-1830). The collection also contains correspondence between Mrs Donald Burnett and her mother in India (1920-1935). The correspondence has a wide geographical spread, including letters from and to Aberdeen, Buenos Aires, France, Canada, London, Belfast, Lisbon and Bangalore. The collection also includes legal documents, including family wills and various undated Christmas cards and photographs. |
