The three documents concerned were brought to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA by Mr Alexander J Murdoch's great grandfather, Joseph Ferguson, sometime in the 1870s when he emigrated there to take up employment as a designer of carpets. It was thought that Joseph Ferguson's own grandfather was David Simpson. The documents passed from Joseph to his daughter Jessie who then passed them onto Mr Murdoch's father, Joseph Simpson Ferguson Murdoch in the 1960s. The framed document was given to Mr Murdoch by his father after he had it framed in the 1970s and the other two documents were found by Mr Murdoch after Joseph's death c.2000. |
