The firm of JC & A Steuart can be traced back to 1663, when John Steuart was appointed notary public. Over the next generations, members of the Steuart family continued working individually and then in partnership as law agents in Edinburgh before the firm JC & A Steuart was finally formed in 1871. The last member of the family to work for the firm was George Steuart, who died in 1939, but the firm continued to operate under other partners including Douglas Walker. His son, Kim Walker was a partner of the firm when it was incorporated into the larger Edinburgh practice, Gillespie Macandrew, WS in 1993. The Walker family originally came from Alford, Aberdeenshire and the two factors' account books originated from there. |
