It is a picture of Combe Bank House located near Sevenoaks in Kent and designed by Robert Adam for Lord Frederick Campbell. He was appointed Lord Clerk Register in 1768 and is given credit along with his predecessor James, Earl of Morton, for achieving a proper repository for the Scottish national records. They approached Robert Adam to design this building and General Register House was founded in 1774. |
