Brewery papers (GD1/1137/1-2)
Reflect a frequent but nonetheless frustrating fact of seventeenth-century life: the delays, often lengthy, in making timely payment for goods. There is a certain irony in Magnus Prince, the supplier's lack of income, because he was later accused, in 1684, of malversation of the Common Good. In addition, objections were raised to his subsequent appointment to the Dean of Guild, since he was already a tacksman of part of the town's revenues. Undeterred, Prince served as Lord Provost of Edinburgh during 1687-8 and in the latter year was knighted. The Harry Morrison who appears in these papers was Governor of Heriot's Hospital between 1673 and 1699. For the papers of George Heriot's Hospital, see GD421. GD1/1137/3-5 Other documents |
