Sir Robert William Duff, 4th of Fetteresso (1835-95) was the nephew of Robert Duff, 3rd of Fetteresso, who died in 1861. Prior to his appointment as Governor, Sir Robert had been MP for Banffshire from 1861 until 1893 and had held positions as junior Lord of the Treasury, 1882-5, Lord of the Admiralty, 1886 - he had earlier been a Commander in the RN - and as a Privy Councillor, 1892. He married Louisa, daughter of Sir William Scott of Ancrum in 1771 by whom he had 7 children. He died in post at Sydney on 15 March 1895. |
