Description
|
Annual abstract of accounts, from 1741 (with large gaps). A variety of miscellaneous financial records, mainly 19th century onwards, including material relating to the building of the new Infirmary, 1867-9. There are also a few 19th century general and clerk's letter books, and hospital committee minute books (e.g. Chaplain and Library Committee, 1878-1909, Medical Managers Committee, 1893-1906,et al).
Probably the most important group is however, the series of the General Medical Register from 1769 to 1900, in 33 volumes, with 34 volumes of indexes, and related volumes, such as the Servants' register, 1762-82, and the Register of Paupers, 1864-80. The medical Students' records consist largely of registers of "tickets", granting of which enabled the holder to walk the wards of the Infirmary (1837-20th century).
Records of the Royal Maternity and Simpson Memorial Hospitals include letter books from 1888 and a variety of case-books from 1844; also, hospital birth registers from 1841 to date.
In different departments of the hospital there are letters, photographs and mementos of well-known personalities, notably Florence Nightingale and Sir James Young Simpson.
