Dalrymple-White Collection. Papers of General Sir Adolphus Oughton, 1731-58, including: minutes of The Cumberland Society, 1746-66; journal of Italian tour, 1752; journal of military company in Germany, 1758. Papers of General Sir Hew Dalrymple, 1808-30, including: correspondence with Major General Beresford, Lord Castlereagh and others concerning the Convention of Cintra, 1808; correspondence with Vice Admiral Lord Collingwood, General C W Doyle, Major-General Sir Brent Spencer, the Duke of Abrantes, George Canning and others about war against the French in the Spanish Peninsula, 1807-08, military reports on the Peninsular War, 1806-08.
Correspondence and papers of Sir John Chambers White, 1795-1845; including: memorandum about executions for alleged conspiracy to naval mutiny, 1798; detailed account of White's war service, 1840-41; ships' order books, 1795-1814; European travel diaries, 1822-23. The papers cover a period of approximately two hundred years, during which members of the family served in the Army, Navy and latterly the Air Force.
